Accra, Sept. 21, GNA – Madam Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo, Greater Accra Regional Minister, has advised women to balance their economic activities with parental responsibilities to ensure the proper upbringing and spiritual development of their children and families.
She said increasing economic pressures had led some mothers to devote more time to economic activities, sometimes at the expense of guiding and caring for their children.
Madam Ocloo made the call in a speech read on her behalf by Madam Portia Naa Sackey Tagoe, Assistant Director at the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council (GARCC), at the opening of the Accra Presbytery Women’s Ministry Rally of the Global Evangelical Church in Accra.
The rally was on the theme: “Christian Women Empowered to Witness and Live Christ in Every Sphere of Life.”
She acknowledged the importance of women’s economic empowerment in enabling them to support the provision of basic needs for their families, but stressed the need to make time for their spiritual upbringing and guidance.
Madam Ocloo said the theme was relevant to the spiritual and social wellbeing of individuals and the nation, and commended the Church and Women’s Ministry leadership for organising the rally.
She said women played significant roles in strengthening and nurturing communities and contributing to national development.
Beyond their homes and the Church, she said Christian women were called upon to demonstrate integrity, compassion, service and responsible leadership wherever they found themselves.
The Minister said the government recognised the contribution of faith-based organisations to promoting peace, social responsibility, education, moral values and community development.
She encouraged the women to use their gifts and influence to make positive contributions to their families, workplaces and communities, and use the rally for spiritual renewal, fellowship, empowerment and recommitment to the service of God and humanity.
Madam Ocloo particularly urged them to prioritise the wellbeing of children, especially young adolescents, and to teach and uphold Christian values among them.
She expressed concern about reports of increasing delinquency among children in communities, attributing the trend partly to inadequate parental guidance.
