Accra, July 22, GNA – An Accra court has adjourned to July 31, 2026, a case involving Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Wontumi, and Akonta Mining Company Limited over alleged illegal mining activities.
Boasiako, who is serving a 20-year prison sentence in a separate case, appeared before the court on Wednesday under the escort of Prison Officers.
The case was adjourned after defence counsel, Mr Andy Appiah-Kubi, submitted a letter requesting additional time, a request the court granted.
Boasiako and Akonta Mining Company Limited are facing charges relating to alleged mining operations without a licence at the Tano Nimri Forest Reserve in the Western Region.
The prosecution also alleges that the accused persons felled about 300 merchantable trees in the reserve and erected structures there without written permission from the Forestry Commission.
Boasiako has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
He is expected to reappear before the court on July 31, 2026.
