Kumasi Oct. 26, GNA – Two editors from the Kumasi Office of the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Mr. Yussif Ibrahim and Ms. Florence Afriyie Mensah, have been celebrated at the 2026 Ashanti Media Excellence Awards, organised by the Ashanti Regional branch of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA).
Mr. Ibrahim was crowned the Best Reporter in Entertainment Journalism and secured the runner-up position in Business and Economy Journalism, while Ms. Mensah clinched second place in Photojournalism.
Held in Kumasi, the prestigious awards ceremony aimed to recognise and celebrate outstanding journalistic standards and media excellence across the Ashanti Region.
The two awardees, both editors at the GNA’s Kumasi office, were among 19 media practitioners honoured for their exceptional contributions to the profession.
This recognition underscores the vital role of professional journalism in keeping the public informed, promoting accountability, and delivering credible coverage of developments across various sectors.
Mr. Kofi Adu Domfeh, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the GJA, emphasised the importance of honouring journalistic excellence, noting that, such initiatives served to motivate media practitioners to uphold professional standards and elevate the quality of their work.
However, he expressed concern over the rising tide of media excesses in the digital age, pointing out that the rapid spread of information across online platforms had intensified the critical need for responsible journalism.
Stressing the importance of innovation in the field, Mr. Domfeh urged media practitioners to embrace emerging technologies while firmly maintaining ethical standards and safeguarding public interest.
He called upon journalists to remain guided by professionalism and accountability in discharging their duties, especially within an evolving media landscape increasingly shaped by digital communication platforms.
The Ashanti Media Excellence Awards represent a key initiative by the GJA to acknowledge the invaluable contributions of journalists and foster high standards of reporting across the region.
