Accra, July 20, GNA – Team Ghana is poised for a strong campaign at the 2026 ITTF-Africa Youth Championships, which begins on Monday, July 20, 2026, at the Borteyman Sports Complex in Accra.
The host nation would be parading a talented squad of young table tennis players determined to make an impact on the continental stage and compete for honours against some of Africa’s finest youth athletes.
The championship has attracted participants from several African Member Associations, with the men’s singles event featuring 96 players and the women’s singles drawing 64 competitors.
Ghana’s men’s team comprises Aklie Israel, Aklie Prince, Azu Emmanuel, Bortieh Bright, Issah Hamza, Mensah Fredrick, Mensah Michael, Ofori Richard, Quartey Jonathan and Yeboah Michael.
The women’s team includes Abaidoo Esi, Akolgo Shiela, Amoako Franka, Bortey Emerald, Borteye Joanita, Droh Jessica, Kyere Emmanuella Yaa and Labanti Blessing.
The Ghanaian table tennis players would be competing in the singles, doubles and team events as they seek to test their skills against some of the continent’s most promising talents.
Team Ghana enters the competition after months of preparation aimed at ensuring the players are ready to perform at the highest level.
The team would also look to draw inspiration from the support of the home crowd throughout the championship.
The squad comprises emerging talents who had progressed through local competitions and national development programmes, with the tournament providing another opportunity to gain valuable international exposure.
The Ghana Table Tennis Association (GTTA), led by its President, Mr. Mawuko Afadzinu and the Executive Committee, has played a key role in preparing the team through effective planning and sustained investment in youth development.
Hosting the championship is expected to further boost the development of table tennis in Ghana while providing the country’s young athletes with the platform to demonstrate their abilities before home supporters.
The ITTF-Africa Youth Championships Accra 2026 follows the successful hosting of the ITTF-Africa Hopes Week and Challenge and precedes the ITTF-Africa Youth Cup, making July a landmark month for table tennis development in Ghana.
