Accra, July 11, GNA – Mr Ahmed Ibrahim, the Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, has been commended for his commitment to President John Dramani Mahama’s “Resetting Agenda” aimed at improving efficiency and cutting the cost of government.

The Ministry was recently restructured to align three portfolios — Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs under one leadership. Observers say the move is intended to streamline operations and ensure coordinated service delivery across Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs)

Though not a member of the ruling party, a governance commentator has described Mr Ibrahim as “an action-oriented Minister” who has taken the President’s vision directly to the grassroots.

“He moves from region to region, MMDA to MMDA, to monitor responsibilities and ensure appointees are delivering,” a statement issued by the office of the minister and copied to the Ghana News Agency on Friday said.

It said, “His recent engagement with the MCE of Ayawaso North was well received by residents, as he urged management to prioritise the needs of the people.”

As Minister in charge of Chieftaincy, Ibrahim, the statement credited him with improving relations with traditional authorities, including facilitating an increase in their allowances.

“As custodians of our customs and traditions, he ensures Chiefs are given their due reverence,” the statement added.

On religious affairs, the Minister is noted for promoting inter-faith unity among Islam, Christianity, and Traditional Religion, while also providing support to religious bodies across the country.

Mr Ibrahim, also a former Deputy Minority Chief Whip, it said, maintains strong ties with Parliament and is among the few Ministers who regularly attend the House to answer questions and participate in legislative duties.

It is also recognised him for his respect for the media, describing journalists as “an important partner to his success as a servant to the people.”

Mr Ibrahim is also the National Deomcratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Banda.

He is described as a committed, hardworking and disciplined public servant, and a staunch elder of the Church of Pentecost.

“Ghana is blessed with such faithful and loyal servants. I can only urge you to continue with this fantastic leadership-servant act,” the commendation concluded.
