Dzodze (V/R), Aug. 9, GNA – Mr Moses Kwame Aglina has been elected Constituency Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Ketu North, defeating the incumbent Acting Chairman, Mr Mac-Thomson Gbeti, in the party’s constituency executive elections.
Mr Aglina secured 613 votes against Mr Gbeti’s 513 votes in the election held at Dzodze on Saturday, August 8.
A total of 1,130 votes were cast out of the 1,203 delegates expected to participate in the exercise.
Mr Dominic Agbanu, District Electoral Officer, declared Mr Aglina the winner and subsequently announced the other elected constituency executives.
They are Mr Joseph Adukpo, First Vice Chairman; Mr Luther Agbatornu, Second Vice Chairman; Mr Raindolph Eli Philipson Dzokoto, Secretary; and Mr Joseph Kwadzo Nyagah, Deputy Secretary.
Others are Mr Christian Quaku Tornyo, Treasurer; Mr James Agbodza, Organiser; Madam Magdaline Gemadzi, Women’s Organiser; Mr Prince Kwadzo Gbadago, Youth Organiser; Mr Louis Martin Gomashie, Communications Officer; and Mr Awudu Gero, Nasara Coordinator, who was elected unopposed.
Mr Maxwell Koffie Lugudor, Chairman of the NPP Ketu North Elections Committee, who administered the oath of office to the newly elected executives, expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the elections, describing the exercise as peaceful, free and fair.
He congratulated the executives and urged them to work together to unite the party and fulfil the mandate entrusted to them by delegates.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Mr Aglina expressed appreciation to the Elections Committee, the Electoral Commission, the Ghana Police Service and delegates for ensuring a smooth and peaceful electoral process.
He said despite the keenly contested nature of the election, it was conducted without incident, demonstrating the maturity and discipline of party members.
Mr Aglina said his election marked the beginning of a new chapter for the party in the constituency and called on members to put the contest behind them and work together to rebuild and strengthen the NPP.
“Whether somebody voted for you or not, we are working for the New Patriotic Party. We are expected to conduct ourselves, build bridges and unite the party,” he said.
He emphasised that he would work closely with all elected executives and would not seek to run the constituency single-handedly.
Mr Aglina said his administration’s primary objective would be to build a stronger and more united party capable of regaining political power, adding that members must work to restore public confidence in the NPP.
He appealed to supporters to celebrate the victory responsibly and avoid actions that could deepen divisions within the party.
“We can rejoice, but we should be mindful of somebody’s loss. Beyond that, we have to reach out to each other and work for the party,” he said.
Mr Aglina also acknowledged the contributions of Mr Gbeti, noting that his experience and service over the past four years would remain valuable to the party.
He disclosed that he had developed a 10-point agenda for his tenure, with emphasis on strengthening grassroots structures, mobilising the youth and rebuilding the organisational capacity of the party in Ketu North.
Mr Aglina said the constituency once enjoyed strong organisational structures and considerable political influence within the NPP, but those gains had diminished and required deliberate efforts to restore them.
He therefore urged executives and supporters to unite, work hard and reconnect with the grassroots to position the party for victory in the 2028 general election.
