Heavy Rain Delays NPP Constituency Executives’ Election in Kadjebi

Kadjebi (O/R), July 11, GNA – A heavy downpour that began on Friday and continued into Saturday, July 11 morning has delayed the start of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Constituency Executives’ Election in the Kadjebi District of the Oti Region.

The election, which was scheduled to commence at 0700 hours at the Rashid Bawa Assembly Hall of the Kadjebi-Asato Senior High School (KASEC), could not begin as planned because candidates’ agents had not arrived at the polling centre.

When the Ghana News Agency (GNA) visited the venue at 0700 hours, only officials of the Electoral Commission (EC), led by Mr Christian Bokode, the Kadjebi District Electoral Officer, and the NPP Constituency Research and Elections Officer, Mr Bashiru Sabitiou Yeziru, were present.

Speaking to the GNA, Mr Yeziru attributed the delay to the absence of candidates’ agents, explaining that the electoral process could not commence until the required party representatives were present.

“The election was expected to start at 0700 hours, but as of now no candidates’ agents have reported to the polling centre, making it impossible for voting to begin,” he said.

Mr Yeziru assured delegates and aspirants that despite the delay, the election would be conducted in a peaceful, transparent and credible manner once all the necessary arrangements had been completed.

He appealed to delegates, candidates and their supporters to remain calm, exercise patience and cooperate with election officials to ensure a smooth electoral process.

The heavy rainfall also affected movement within parts of the district, making it difficult for some delegates, candidates and party officials travelling from surrounding communities to arrive at the polling centre on time.

As of 0810 hours, voting had still not commenced, while election officials remained at the venue awaiting the arrival of candidates’ agents before the process could begin.

The election is expected to elect constituency executives who will manage the affairs of the party in the Kadjebi Constituency for the next four years.

A total of 1,012 delegates are expected to vote for 20 aspirants vying for various positions.

Party officials expressed optimism that the exercise would begin once all electoral requirements had been fulfilled.
