Former DCE pledges to unite factions, mobilise base for Bawumia in Asante-Akim South

Juaso (Ash), July 09, GNA – Alhaji Abdul-Karim Boakye, a former District Chief Executive (DCE) for Asante-Akim South, who is vying for the Constituency Chairman position of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), says the party is at a “crossroads” and needs experienced hands to reorganise the grassroots ahead of the 2028 general election.

Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Mr. Boakye said his decision to enter the race was driven by a conviction that, the party’s fortunes in the constituency depended on unity and disciplined grassroots mobilisation in support of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s presidential ambitions.

“This time the party is at crossroads,” he said, adding that, party members had to “put our hands on deck to support Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia to win and win massively in 2028.”

The former DCE said his years of experience in district-level politics positioned him to unite the constituency and drive voter mobilisation in what he described as a difficult-to-organise rural district.

He said his singular focus, if elected, would be to strengthen the party’s structures from the grassroots up.

“We have no agenda other than Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia’s agenda,” he stated, insisting that the party’s organisational push must begin at the grassroots level.

Mr. Boakye, who has since retired from public service and resides permanently in the district, argued that his availability would give him the time and energy to travel across Asante-Akim South mobilising support ahead of the 2028 polls.

“As a retiree staying at home, I can move around and mobilise the youth steadily till 2028,” he said, adding that, his age and experience placed him in a strong position to resolve internal factionalism within the party’s local structures and present a “clean slate” going into the elections.

The aspiring constituency chairman threw his full weight behind Dr Bawumia, describing him as the only candidate, across both the NPP and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) with a vision capable of leading Ghana forward.

“It is only Alhaji Bawumia’s vision that can take Ghana into the promised land,” he said, urging party members to rally behind the former Vice President.

Mr. Boakye Yiadom leaned heavily on his political history to make his case, describing himself as one of the pioneers who introduced the NPP to Asante-Akim in the early years of the Fourth Republic.

He noted that, he had worked closely with successive Members of Parliament for the constituency, including Mr. Alex Kwaku Korankye, Mrs. Gifty Ohene Konadu, and the current MP, Mr. Kwaku Asante Boateng, and said this depth of institutional knowledge equipped him to bridge generational gaps within the party.

“Some of the young generations don’t know the history of the party.

Some don’t understand why they should belong to the NPP,” he said, adding that, his background as a nurse and teacher, gave him the standing to engage and educate younger party members on the party’s legacy and relevance.

“The future of Ghana belongs to the NPP and the youth, and Alhaji Bawumia has the key to that,” he said.
