Wa, (UW/R), July 3, GNA – The Upper West Regional Football Association (RFA) has expressed optimism that the Black Stars will secure victory over Colombia in the Round of 32 clash at the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup.

It said the Black Stars had shown remarkable improvement in their performances so far and had the potential to defeat the South American side.

Mr Peter Issah, Vice Chairman of the Upper West Regional Football Association (RFA), who said this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Wa, added that though the encounter might be tough, Ghana would emerge victorious.

He expressed hope that the Black Stars’ performance in the 2026 FIFA World Cup would surpass Ghana’s historic quarterfinal finish at the 2010 FIFA World Cup and reach beyond the semifinals.

Mr Issah commended the level of national support for the team, noting that football enthusiasm had increased significantly across the country, with many women joining fans to watch the late-night World Cup matches.

He appealed to supporters to continue rallying behind the team ahead of Saturday’s match and said their encouragement would motivate the players to deliver another strong performance.

Mr Ibrahim Foriko, a football enthusiast in Wa, also expressed confidence in the technical direction of the team.

He praised the coach’s tactical approach and said the players had demonstrated the confidence and determination needed to overcome Colombia.

“It will be a difficult task, but the presence and high energy of the fans will serve as an essential extra force on the field to push the team to victory.

Just one goal for the Black Stars and then we can continue with our jubilation”, he said.

Mr Iddrisu Polibu, popularly known as Coach Asprilla, a football administrator in the region, urged the players to seize the opportunity presented by the World Cup to advance their football careers.

He expressed confidence that the team would maintain its tactical discipline to secure qualification to the next stage of the competition.

“I expect the fans to sustain their strong support for the team. On Saturday, we should either win in regulation time or defeat Colombia on penalties if the game ends in a draw”, he said.

Other supporters in the Wa also expressed confidence that the team’s current form and the unwavering support from Ghanaians at home and abroad would inspire the Black Stars to win against Colombia.
