Weta (VR), July 30, GNA -The Ewe Loyalty Foundation (ELF), a non-profit humanitarian organisation in the Volta Region, has donated a 22 school uniforms to needy pupils of the Weta Evangelical Presbyterian Basic School in the Ketu North Municipality of the Volta Region.
The gesture forms part of efforts by the Foundation to support education and improve school attendance, as well as motivate needy pupils to pursue their dreams, while easing the financial burden on parents.
Mr Eric Shine Ekow Setor, the General Secretary of the Foundation, told the Ghana News Agency, thag the vision of the association was to build a compassionate, unite and empower Volta Region for vulnerable people to have hope, dignity, equal opportunities and support.
“Foundation’s mission is to serve humanity through sustainable charitable interventions by supporting schools, orphanages, hospitals and prisons with essential items, to also promote volunteerism, unity and community development across the region and beyond,” he said.
Mr Setor explained that the ongoing first phase of the Foundation’s school uniform donation exercise would conclude at Shime in the Anloga District, while the second phase was scheduled to begin in September in Hohoe, Ho, Weta Roman Catholic and Kpando.
He appealed to individuals, corporate organisations and philanthropists to support the Foundation to enable expand the humanitarian activities to more communities across the Volta Region.
Mr Enoch Amedegbe, the Assembly Member for the Weta Electoral Area, welcomed the initiative and delegated the Unit Committee Chairman, Mr Emmanuel, to represent him at the ceremony, while commending the Foundation, on behalf of parents and the Weta community, for its commitment to supporting vulnerable children and promoting education in the municipality.
Mr Martin Kwawu, the Headteacher of the school, who received the uniforms on behalf of the beneficiaries, expressed appreciation to the Foundation for the timely intervention, and described the gesture as a significant contribution towards improving the welfare of the learners.
He also appealed to other organisations and benevolent individuals to emulate the Foundation footsteps and extend similar support to schools in need to improve and promote quality teaching and learning in the areas.
He stressed that the donation would not only help beneficiaries to stay in school but would also give them a sense of belonging and confidence among their peers which would further boost their learning capabilities.
