Accra, July 13, GNA – Central University has launched a Pre-Bar Course to expand access to legal education under Ghana’s Legal Education Act, 2026 (Act 1170).
The launch, held at the University’s Kumasi Campus at Ayigya on Friday, marked a milestone in efforts to provide alternative pathways for prospective lawyers under the reformed framework.
Professor Kenneth Agyeman Attafuah, Dean of the Central Law School, said the “Central Pathway to Becoming a Lawyer” was designed as an accessible, rigorous and practice-oriented programme to meet the requirements of the new regime.


He said the University was committed to producing competent legal professionals through innovative teaching, practical training and academic excellence in line with the Act.
Professor Attafuah noted that the introduction of the Pre-Bar Course reflected the University’s determination to contribute to the transformation of legal education in Ghana while creating broader opportunities for aspiring lawyers.
Prof. Kwasi Dartey-Baah, Vice-Chancellor of Central University, said the institution was ready to support the implementation of the new framework.
He said the University had invested in the human and institutional capacity required to deliver quality legal education and equip students with the knowledge, skills and professional values expected of lawyers in contemporary society.
Prof. Dartey-Baah expressed confidence that the programme would become a model for legal training under the country’s evolving system.
The University said the Pre-Bar Course formed part of its broader vision to expand access to legal education, promote professional excellence and contribute to the development of a highly skilled legal workforce for Ghana.


Otumfuo Anantahene, Baffour Agyei Twitwiakwa II, Senior Partner of Moomin & Botta Solicitors in his private capacity, commended the University for the initiative and encouraged prospective students to take advantage of opportunities created by the reforms.
The launch featured an interactive session during which students and applicants engaged the University’s leadership on the opportunities and implications of the Legal Education Act, 2026, and sought clarification on the structure and objectives of the Pre-Bar programme.
The event was attended by Mrs Lily Nutakor, Registrar of Central University; Mrs Ruth Afful, Director of Academic and Student Services; Dr Doris Yalley, Director of the Kumasi Campus; faculty members, staff, students and other distinguished guests.
