Asokore-Mampong (Ash), Sept. 01, GNA – The Asokore-Mampong Municipal office of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), has extended support to 86 persons who were affected by recent disasters in the area.
The donation forms part of ongoing efforts by the Assembly and NADMO to deliver prompt support to households impacted by the recent fire and flooding incidents in the municipality.
The intervention also aimed at alleviating the hardship inflicted on affected families, while enabling them to resume their lives as they begin the process of recovery and rebuilding.
The relief items include mattresses, bags of rice, cartons of cooking oil, blankets, washing bowls, soaps, among other necessities.
Mr Ben Abdullah Alhassan, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), speaking to the Ghana News Agency, stated that, the Assembly remained committed to placing the welfare and safety of residents at the forefront, particularly individuals and families whose livelihoods had been disrupted by unforeseen disasters.
He added that effective collaboration with relevant institutions and stakeholders was therefore crucial to safeguard lives, protect livelihoods, and advance the overall wellbeing of residents throughout the Municipality.
The MCE emphasized the need for coordinated disaster-response efforts, explaining that such collaboration not only addresses the immediate needs of affected communities, but also strengthens preparedness and resilience against future emergencies.
He also urged disaster victims to make adequate use of fire extinguishers, noting that fire outbreaks could spread rapidly and with little warning.
Alhaji Mohammed Nasir Ibrahim, the Ashanti NADMO Director, said that between January and August 2026, the Asokore-Mampong Municipality recorded 20 fire disasters out of the 99 fire disasters recorded across the Ashanti Region.
He described the figure as deeply concerning and therefore called on households and individuals to take fire prevention seriously.
Some beneficiaries expressed their appreciation to the Assembly and NADMO for the timely support, describing the assistance as a meaningful source of relief during these difficult times.
