Tamale, Sept 01, GNA – MTN Ghana has donated GH¢20,000, airtime worth GH¢1,000, packs of beverages and water to the Dagbon Traditional Council to support the celebration of this year’s Damba Festival.
A delegation from MTN Ghana presented the items to Kampakuya-Naa Yakubu Abukari II, Regent of Dagbon, and his Elders at the Gbewaa Palace at Yendi.
Mr Simon Amoh, Senior Manager, Regional Sales, North, MTN Ghana, speaking at the Gbewaa Palace to hand over the items, expressed hope that the gesture would help the Traditional Council organise a memorable and successful Damba celebration.
Mr Amoh said the donation to the Traditional Council formed part of MTN Ghana’s commitment to supporting traditional institutions, promoting the country’s cultural heritage and strengthening communities.
Damba Festival is celebrated by the people in the northern part of the country to mark the birth and naming of Prophet Mohammed as well as to glorify their chieftaincy heritage.
Some traditional authorities have already celebrated the festival with others scheduled to celebrate it later this month.
Mr Amoh said Damba Festival was one of the cherished expressions of the history, faith, culture and identity of the people of Dagbon, adding the celebrations went beyond merrymaking to providing opportunities for families and communities to reunite, honour traditional authority and renew their commitment to peace and development.
He said the celebrations, through prayer, drumming, dancing, royal processions and the transmission of customs from elders to the younger generation, helped preserve Dagbon’s heritage and strengthened the younger generation’s connection to their values, history and traditional institutions.
He said MTN Ghana’s support for Damba Festival formed part of its commitment to being a force for good in the communities where it operated, emphasising that the company remained committed to safeguarding the country’s rich cultural heritage for future generations.
Mr Amoh announced that MTN experience centres would be available at key locations in the area during the festival to assist customers and ensure a seamless service experience.
Kampakuya-Naa Abukari II commended MTN Ghana for its continued support for activities in the Traditional Area and prayed for the company’s continued growth.
