Tano North MCE inaugurates WASH facilities in local communities

Susuanho (Ahafo), June 05, GNA – Mr Pius Sampson Opoku, the Tano North Municipal Chief Executive in the Ahafo Region has inaugurated Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) facilities in the Municipality. 
 
The Municipal Assembly under its implementation of the “2025-2026 WASH Systems Strengthening Project” constructed gender-responsive sanitation facilities comprising hand washing stations, toilets and solar-powered mechanised borehole water systems. 
 
The Susanho Roman Catholic Basic and the Duayaw Nkwanta Islamic Basic Schools benefited from the hand-washing stations and toilet facilities with the Tanoano Community-based Health Planning Service (CHPS) compound and the Nkurakan CHPS compound benefiting from the water systems. 
 
At the commissioning of the facilities at separate events, Mr Opoku explained that the facilities were built through the collaborative efforts of the Municipal Assembly, IRC Ghana, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. 
 
He said the facilities were executed to improve hygiene and promote healthy lifestyles as well as community development. 
 
Mr Opoku commended the collaborative efforts of the partners, describing it as a fruitful partnership towards improving the quality of lives of the people and transforming the local communities. 
 
“This isn’t only a commission, but a testament of fruitful partnership,” he stated, and urged the people to continue to support the government towards progressive development. 
 
Madam Vida Duti, the Country Director for IRC Ghana, stressed the NGO’s dedication towards helping the nation to promote safe and proper sanitation in local communities. 
 
Mr Albert Damte, the Duayaw-Nkwanta branch President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints said the church’s financial contributions to the building of the facilities were through ‘Fasting offerings and humanitarian donations by members. 
 
“That is a true demonstration of love for mankind,” he added. 
 
Some of the community leaders thanked the donors for the gesture and pledged to ensure the proper maintenance of the facilities.
