Bechem (Ahafo), Aug. 28, GNA – Zoomlion Ghana Limited (ZGL), a waste management and sanitation company, has undertaken a disinfection exercise at public toilets, market centres, refuse container sites and lorry stations at Bechem in the Tano South Municipality of the Ahafo Region.
The exercise forms part of the company’s quarterly sanitation intervention aimed at improving environmental cleanliness and preventing the spread of communicable and infectious diseases.
Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the exercise, Madam Sandra Ansah, Tano South Manager of ZGL, said the disinfection exercise was conducted periodically to help maintain hygienic public spaces and protect public health.
She urged residents to keep their surroundings clean and desist from littering and the indiscriminate disposal of refuse and plastic waste.
Madam Ansah emphasised that maintaining environmental cleanliness was a shared responsibility and called on community members to support efforts aimed at improving sanitation in the municipality.
Mr Denis Addai, Ahafo Regional Human Resource Officer of ZGL, said the company was collaborating with the six Municipal and District Assemblies in the region to carry out the exercise.

He noted that proper sanitation and environmental cleanliness contributed significantly to public health and helped reduce the incidence of malaria and other diseases.
Mr Addai expressed concern about poor sanitation conditions in some parts of the municipality and appealed for greater public commitment to environmental cleanliness.
He also expressed the hope that the Government would renew its contract with the company to facilitate the engagement of additional personnel and strengthen efforts to address sanitation challenges in the country.
In a separate interview, some personnel of ZGL in the area appealed to the company to expedite the payment of their 20 months’ salary arrears.
