Sunyani (Bono), Aug. 28, GNA – Mr Vincent Antwi Agyei, the Sunyani Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), has cut the sod for the commencement of rehabilitation works on the Sunyani Main Lorry Station.
The project, being funded by the Sunyani Municipal Assembly, involves the pavement of the 3,600-square-metre station and the construction of modern sanitary facilities to improve conditions at the transport terminal.
Jago Apex Company Limited is executing the project, which is expected to be completed within 60 days.
Speaking at a ceremony in Sunyani, Mr Agyei said the rehabilitation project would transform the station into a modern transport hub and enhance commercial activities within the Central Business District of the Bono Regional capital.
He said the Assembly had temporarily relocated operations from the lorry station to the Sunyani Municipal Hospital enclave near the Municipal Police Station to pave the way for the project.
The MCE assured commercial drivers, traders, and other users of the facility that the project would be completed within the stipulated period.
Mr Agyei expressed appreciation to the transport unions, drivers, and traders for their cooperation and understanding.
He explained that the Assembly had constituted a task force to ensure smooth operations at the temporary station and maintain order during the project period.
The MCE warned that drivers who failed to comply with directives governing the temporary arrangements would be sanctioned.
He said offenders would be liable to an on-the-spot fine of GH¢1,000.
Mr Agyei expressed optimism that the rehabilitation would improve safety, convenience and sanitation at the station while enhancing the image of Sunyani as a growing commercial centre.
