Abuakwa (Ash), June 5, GNA – Mr. Wisdom Osei Boamah, the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), has described the proposed 24-hour model market being implemented by the government as a vision for sustainable growth, increased productivity, and a thriving economy.
He said the markets, which would operate around the clock upon completion, were expected to create employment opportunities and improve the livelihoods of Ghanaians.
Mr. Osei Boamah made the remarks during a sod-cutting ceremony to kick off the construction of a 24-hour market at Abuakwa in line with the government’s vision to stimulate economic activities in various districts across the county.
He noted that the project marked the beginning of a new chapter of economic transformation in the municipality, bringing renewed hope to traders, artisans, transport operators, and young people seeking employment opportunities.
The MCE assured residents that women and traders within the municipality would be given priority in the allocation of shops and trading spaces after the completion of the project.
“Women and traders in the municipality will be considered first before any allocation is made to outsiders,” he stated.
According to him, the arrangement was intended to ensure that residents, who contribute directly to the municipality’s revenue generation through taxes and levies, derived the full benefits of the project.
Mr. Osei Boamah expressed appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama for his commitment to infrastructure and economic development, and commended traditional authorities, residents, and other stakeholders for their continuous support towards the development of the area.
He appealed to residents to cooperate with the contractor to facilitate the smooth execution and timely completion of the Government-funded project within the stipulated two to three-year period.
The market project would comprise a police post, fire station, clinic, daycare centre, and other modern facilities aimed at improving trading activities and ensuring the safety and welfare of users.
Nana Yaw Akuoko, Otumfuo Asinhene, who chaired the ceremony, commended the Government and the Municipal Assembly for initiating the project.
He pledged the support of the traditional authorities towards the successful completion and commissioning of the market.
