Kyeremekrom (Bono), Aug. 28, GNA – The chiefs and people of Kyeremekrom, a farming community near Wawasua in the Sunyani Municipality of the Bono Region, have appealed for access to potable drinking water and improved street lighting to enhance their living conditions.
According to residents, the community’s only borehole has been out of service for several years, compelling them to rely on alternative and unsafe sources of water.
They explained that although a pipe system connected to a small polytank had been installed, it was unable to function effectively due to an unreliable electricity supply.
Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Nana Kofi Ampaabeng Kyeremeh, the Linguist of Kyeremekrom, said residents currently depended on a stream which was also used by stray animals.
He expressed concern that the situation posed serious health risks to members of the community and affected their general wellbeing.
Nana Kyeremeh appealed to non-governmental organisations, philanthropists, faith-based organisations and corporate institutions to support the community with a sustainable source of potable water.
He also expressed concern about the inadequate lighting system in the community, indicating that most of the streetlights were not functioning.
According to him, the situation had contributed to insecurity and made movement within the community difficult at night.
Nana Kyeremeh therefore called on the appropriate authorities and other stakeholders to assist in restoring the streetlights and improving infrastructure in the area.
