Accra, Aug. 28, GNA – The Teshie Homowo festival has the potential to attract international visitors and create economic opportunities for residents, Mr Andrew Nii Adjei Khartey, a New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary aspirant in Ledzokuku Constituency has said.
He said greater investment in the festival and other cultural events could help expand Ghana’s tourism frontiers and generate income for residents.
Mr Khartey made the observation in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Accra.
He said festival tourism could attract foreign interest and participation and create opportunities for local businesses and residents.
Mr Khartey described the Teshie festival as an important cultural event that brought residents together to give thanks to God and seek blessings for the community.
He said the festival, which spanned several weeks, reflected the strong cultural identity and heritage of Teshie.
Mr Khartey urged residents, particularly the youth, to remain united and peaceful and to take advantage of opportunities that could improve their livelihoods.
He said young people should regard themselves as leaders of the present and prepare for leadership through education, skills development and productive economic activities.
Mr Khartey entreated the youth to remain focused on their education, pursue income-generating opportunities and make choices that would improve their lives and those of their families.
He also encouraged residents to maintain the peaceful atmosphere that had characterised the Homowo celebrations in the area.
Mr Khartey announced his intention to contest the NPP parliamentary candidacy for the Ledzokuku Constituency in the 2028 elections.
He said his experience serving the NPP at various levels, including in the constituency, had motivated him to seek the party’s parliamentary candidacy.
Mr Khartey said the NPP had delivered tangible development interventions in the constituency whenever it secured the parliamentary seat.
He cited former representatives, including Gladys Asmah and Dr Okoe Boye, saying their contributions and policy interventions remained visible in the constituency.
Mr Khartey acknowledged that Teshie was not an easy constituency for the NPP but expressed confidence that voters would compare the records of the political parties before making their choice in 2028.
The aspirant also praised the NPP’s flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, saying he had demonstrated the capacity to lead the party and outlined policies he intended to implement.
