Schools provide platform, opportunities to revive Ghana’s film industry

Accra, June 15, GNA – Mr Raymond Lartey, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Picturegenetics Studio, says schools provide a unique platform to unearth talents in acting and film to revive Ghana’s movie industry. 

He said the development of students’ talents would provide them with employment and career opportunities in the global film industry. 

Mr Lartey made these remarks in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at the grand finale of the maiden edition of the Schools International Films (SiF) Awards, held on Friday at the GNAT Hall, Accra. 

The awards,  organised by Picturegenetics Studio and Elson Multimedia, is aimed at discovering and promoting acting talents in schools.  

It had five schools in the Greater Accra Region participating, namely Evergreen Field Montessori School, Emmanuel Excellence Academy, Additrom School, United Baylor Academy, and Great Cenesco School. 

The eight-week schools acting competition had Miss Keziah Asumadu from Evergreen Field Montessori emerging as the best actress in a leading role, receiving a GHS5,000 cash prize. 

Miss Bernice Opoku from the Emmanuel Excellence Academy won the best actress in a supporting role and received GHS3,000 cash prize. 

Mr Lartey said he was impressed with the prospects he saw in the students, saying Ghana’s film industry had great potential when effectively harnessed and invested in. 

“The objective is to tap into the enormous talents hidden in the students and use them to open doors and create profitable working opportunities for them in the ever-growing creative arts industry,” he said. 

“Realising and tapping into these vast untapped talents is our motivation, and we seek to make it one of the greatest events ever to transcend boundaries.” 

Mr Lartey called on the Government and stakeholders to support the initiative to improve Ghana’s movie industry fortunes. 

Miss Keziah Asumadu said the competition had helped to build her interest in acting, adding that her confidence and creative skills had also improved. 

She commended the organisers for the awards and promised to continue to work even harder to achieve her dreams.
