Accra, June 25, GNA – The National Blood Service Ghana has honoured Twellium Industrial Company Limited for its contribution to voluntary blood donation and support towards strengthening healthcare delivery in the country.
The recognition was presented during the commemoration of World Blood Donor Day 2026 in acknowledgement of the company’s efforts to promote voluntary blood donation and support initiatives aimed at improving blood availability nationwide.
A statement copied to the Ghana News Agency said Twellium had over the years incorporated blood donation activities into its Corporate Social Responsibility agenda, encouraging employees and community members to participate in blood donation exercises.
It said the company, in partnership with Zipline and the National Blood Service, launched a nationwide blood mobilisation campaign in 2025 under the theme: “To Share Love, Donate Blood.”
The year-long campaign sought to address blood shortages and promote voluntary and unpaid blood donation across the country.
The statement said the partnership set a target of helping to save more than 10,000 lives through increased blood donations and improved access to blood products for patients requiring urgent medical care.
Blood donation exercises organised under the campaign in regions including the Northern and Ashanti Regions attracted hundreds of volunteers and encouraged public participation in voluntary blood donation.
The statement said the partnership also leveraged Zipline’s drone delivery network to improve the distribution of blood and medical supplies to health facilities.
It noted that in 2025, Zipline conducted more than 4,300 blood deliveries and transported over 5,000 units of blood to 96 health facilities across the country.
The deliveries helped address blood shortages and supported emergency response efforts for maternal health cases, accident victims, children and critically ill patients, it said.
The statement said the collaboration combined Twellium’s community mobilisation efforts, Zipline’s logistics capabilities and the National Blood Service’s technical expertise to support efforts towards establishing a sustainable blood supply system based on voluntary and unpaid donations.
It said the recognition underscored the company’s commitment to supporting health-related initiatives in line with the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and the Sustainable Development Goals.
