Accra, June 10, GNA – The Korle-Klottey Municipal Assembly (KoKMA) has inaugurated the Korle-Klottey Business and Investment Forum to position the municipality as Ghana’s prime investment destination.
The forum, held under the theme “Positioning Korle-Klottey as the Prime Business and Investment Destination in Ghana,” brought together government officials, investors, policymakers, development partners, business leaders and civil society organisations to explore opportunities for growth and partnership.
Mr Alfred Allotey-Gaisie, Municipal Chief Executive for Korle-Klottey, said the platform would serve as an annual gathering for stakeholders to assess investment opportunities, review progress and strengthen collaboration towards local economic transformation.
He described Korle-Klottey as strategically placed within Ghana’s economic architecture, hosting major financial institutions, diplomatic missions, hospitality facilities, cultural assets, vibrant markets and the nation’s central business district.
Mr Allotey-Gaisie said that the municipality also hosts the Secretariat of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), placing it at the centre of Africa’s evolving economic transformation.
“Our vision is to build a world-class city with modern infrastructure, quality social services, a resilient environment and an investor-friendly destination,” he said.
Mr Allotey-Gaisie highlighted reforms to strengthen internally generated funds, including digitalised revenue collection, property rate mobilisation and business permit administration.
He said nearly 80 per cent of resources for local development were generated internally, enabling projects such as market redevelopment, sanitation improvements, road infrastructure and safety interventions.
Mr Allotey-Gaisie disclosed that major redevelopment initiatives, including the Odorna Market Redevelopment Project expected to accommodate about 6,000 traders, were underway alongside plans for the Osu Day and Night Market, Tema Station Market and Adabraka Fish Market.
He stressed that redevelopment should be inclusive, integrating existing traders and residents into the modernised urban economy.
Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, Member of Parliament for Klottey Korle Constituency, described the municipality as a strategic location rich in history, culture and entrepreneurship.
She urged stakeholders to ensure development remained people-centred and inclusive.
“Development should not be measured solely by physical infrastructure and economic activity, but by the extent to which people are able to participate in and benefit from the opportunities created,” she said.
Dr Agyeman-Rawlings cited data showing that about 10.6 per cent of residents lived in multi-dimensionally poor households despite the municipality’s vibrancy, and called for investments in education, technical and vocational training, entrepreneurship support, digital skills and leadership development.
She also encouraged investors to support tourism, hospitality, healthcare, education, real estate, creative industries and the digital economy.
Professor Sean Adoboe, Head of Service at the Office of the Head of the Local Government Service, said Korle-Klottey’s concentration of financial institutions, diplomatic missions, educational institutions and emerging technology businesses made it one of Ghana’s key commercial and administrative hubs.
He stressed that economic potential alone was insufficient to attract investment, and called for deliberate planning, innovation, infrastructure development and strong partnerships.
Prof. Adoboe identified strengthening the business environment, improving infrastructure and service delivery, promoting entrepreneurship and youth innovation, and advancing sustainability and climate resilience as priorities
He called for stronger collaboration among government, the private sector and development partners to accelerate inclusive growth and position Korle-Klottey as a leading investment destination.
