Keta (V/R), June 24, GNA – Some Jubilant football fans in the Keta Municipality of the Volta Region, have celebrated the team following their outstanding goalless draw against England in their Group L match at the ongoing FIFA World Cup.Â
In a resilient display that thrilled supporters across the country, the Black Stars executed their game plan perfectly, sitting deep to stifle England while remaining a constant threat on the counterattack.
Mr Ishmael Pomadi, a fan, told the Ghana News Agency that, though the team failed to find the back of the net themselves, they kept the tournament favourites at bay throughout which earned them a precious point that kept them firmly in contention for a place in the knockout round of 32.
“The euphoria within our hearts is high, l believe all communities along the Keta coastline are supporting the team with the red, gold, green, and black colours. We are celebrating the finest performance by the Black Stars in recent memory on the world stage,” he said.
Mr Pomadi said the result was a source of immense pride for the entire Volta Region and the country and urged the public to rally support for the Black Stars to be the first country to lift the FIFA World Cup from Africa.
“Yes, the man behind the tactical masterclass is the 73-year-old Portuguese tactician Carlos Queiroz, who is born in Angoche, Mozambique, and is widely known for his organised, defensive-minded approach and ability to get results against stronger opponents.”
He praised the veteran coach for fielding a formidable and tactically disciplined side against one of the tournament’s most dangerous attacking teams for a successful match day-two in group L.
Mr Michael Awana, another fan, said that England, who started the match brightly and dominated the contest with 78.8 per cent possession, their highest ever recorded figure in a World Cup match, fired 19 shots at goal, yet could not breach the Black Stars’ resolute backline.
He marvelled at the collective defensive effort, with many singling out the organisation and composure of the entire Black Stars unit as exceptional by African standards.
GNA also observed that many fans in Keta broke into spontaneous applause and chanting of Asare’s name, with many expressing prides that a goalkeeper still plying his trade in the Ghana Premier League could outshine players from the Premier League, La Liga, and the Bundesliga.
