Akroso (E/R), Sept. 11, GNA – The Akroso Islamic Basic School has emerged as the best-performing public school in this year’s (2026) Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the Akroso Circuit in the Eastern Region.
The school presented eight candidates in its first-ever BECE and they all successfully completed the examination and recorded an outstanding performance.
This has brought excitement to students, teachers, parents and the wider community at a colourful ceremony to celebrate the success where the students and teachers were recognized for their hard work.
The students received school bags, books and other learning materials to support them as they begin their journey in senior high school education.
The school’s achievement comes at a time when Resource Together, USA, an international non-governmental organisation made a major intervention to improve the learning environment by establishing a library for the school.
Mr Raphael Kumako, the Ghana Education Service School Improvement Support Officer of Akroso Circuit in a statement copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra, described the results as an important achievement for the school, particularly because it was the first time the school had presented candidates for the BECE.
He said the performance had shown what pupils could achieve when teachers, parents and other stakeholders worked together to support their education while acknowledging the teachers for the key role they played in preparing the candidates for the examination.
Mr Ebenezer Donkor, Country Representative of Resource Together, said the organisation’s interest in the school was based on the need to create better learning opportunities for children and give them access to resources that could help them succeed.
He said the library was established to encourage pupils to develop a stronger reading habit and to make useful educational materials more accessible to them.
Mr. Donkor expressed satisfaction with the performance of the school’s first batch of BECE candidates and said the results were encouraging for the school’s future.
He said Resource Together remained committed to supporting initiatives that improve children’s access to education and help them develop the knowledge and skills needed for the next stage of their lives.
The organisation, he noted, sees education as a long-term investment, with interventions such as libraries providing benefits that can extend beyond a single examination.
Some parents who attended the celebration expressed their joy over the results, saying the achievement had given them greater confidence in the future of the school and its pupils.
They said, “The success also shows that providing children with the right learning materials and a good environment can make a real difference in their education.”
The eight students are now preparing to enter senior high school and the school items presented to them are expected to help ease some of the financial pressure that comes with starting a new chapter of their education.
