Ghanaian fans back Black Stars to secure win over Panama

Accra, June 17, GNA – Football fans in Accra are optimistic that the Black Stars will secure victory against Panama in their opening match, although many expect the encounter to be closely contested.

Some supporters, who spoke to the Ghana News Agency ahead of the game, expressed confidence in Ghana’s chances but stated that the team must raise its performance to meet expectations.

Mr Joshua Appiah, a fan wearing a Black Stars jersey, said while he expected Ghana to emerge victorious, he was not anticipating a comfortable win.

“I expect a win, but not a big win because this is a team I don’t fully trust,” he said.

“I see Ghana winning by a small margin, maybe 1-0, 2-0 or 2-1, but I don’t have very high expectations,” he added.

Mr Appiah said although the team possessed quality players, the outcome remained uncertain.

“This tournament is different. We have good players and a good team, but we don’t know what will happen. I expect Ghana to beat Panama, and I will be happy if that happens,” he added.

Another supporter, Mr Gideon Nhyiraba, predicted the Black Stars would score at least two goals and expressed confidence in the tactical approach of the team’s new coach.

“I expect the Black Stars to score at least two goals. Even if Panama scores one, a 2-1 victory will be fine,” he said.

Mr Nhyiraba described the match as crucial to Ghana’s campaign, noting that a positive result would boost the team’s confidence ahead of tougher fixtures.

“It won’t be easy because if we lose to Panama, I don’t know what will happen when we play England or Croatia. So, I hope for the best,” he said.

Some supporters forecast a more entertaining encounter with several goals.

Mr Emmanuel Daisy, a student, predicted a 3-2 victory for Ghana, saying he expected striker Antoine Semenyo to play a key role in the match.

Ms Juan Dibemma, a student, said the match carried personal significance because of her connection with one of the players.

“We are all supporting the Black Stars. We hope they do well, and I have a friend on the team. We are all wishing him and the team the very best,” she said.

As kick-off approaches, the mood among football enthusiasts in Accra remains one of cautious optimism, with many united in the belief that Ghana has what it takes to secure victory, provided the Black Stars rise to the occasion.

The match starts at 23:00 GMT
