Ningo, Sept. 09, GNA – The Luwekponor Okuben Wem and Luwekponor Okuben Clans have welcomed Nene Osroagbo Djangmah XII as the Paramount Chief of Ningo, describing his ascension as a significant development after more than four decades without a substantive paramount chief.
The clans expressed hope that the restoration of paramountcy would strengthen traditional leadership, promote unity and peace, and provide an avenue for resolving longstanding disputes within the Ningo Traditional Area.
They said the presence of a substantive paramount chief would enable clans and communities to seek traditional guidance and bring important matters before the traditional authority for direction and resolution.
The Luwekponor Okuben Clan pledged its support and cooperation with Nene Djangmah and his elders in their efforts to promote peace, unity and development in the area.
At a welcome ceremony, Nene Nii Laryae Diwohene I, the Chief of Nungua Klagon, appealed to the Paramount Chief to intervene in a dispute within the Luwekponor Okuben Clan, which persisted since 2014.
He said the dispute followed the installation of another person as Asafoatse alongside Asafoatse Ashalley Kweitsu Okuben IV, creating tensions within the clan.
He appealed to the Paramount Chief to help resolve the matter, asserting that Asafoatse Ashalley Kweitsu Okuben IV remained the duly recognised and gazetted Asafoatse of the clan.
Mr Emmanuel Quaye, the Family Secretary, also petitioned the Paramount Chief on behalf of Asafoatse Ashalley Kweitsu Okuben IV over another dispute involving one of the five gates within the wider Okuben Clan.
Mr Quaye alleged that the gate had begun operating independently and was making claims to lands belonging to the wider clan.
He expressed concern that the situation could deepen divisions within the clan if not addressed and urged the Paramount Chief to use established traditional processes to help resolve the matter.
He said the intervention of the Paramount Chief would help protect the interests of the wider Okuben Clan and prevent the disputes from escalating.
In response, Nene Osroagbo Djangmah accepted the petitions and assured the clans that their concerns would receive the necessary attention.
He said the matters raised would be addressed by dialogue, and established traditional processes would address the matters raised through dialogue and established traditional processes.
The Okuben Clans expressed confidence in the Paramount Chief and his elders and pledged their cooperation towards building peace and unity within the clans and the wider Ningo Traditional Area.
