Accra, June 10, GNA – An 11-year-old pupil in Accra has won a gold medal and attained a top-three global ranking in the 2026 Singapore and Asian Schools Math Olympiad (SASMO).
Anvita Sharma, a Grade Six learner, placed among the world’s top-performing participants, with only two students recording higher scores in the competition.
This was contained in a statement issued to the Ghana News Agency in Accra.
The statement said Anvita outperformed more than 62,000 students who participated in this year’s Olympiad, organised by the Singapore International Math Contests Centre and contested by learners from more than 50 countries.
It said SASMO assessed mathematical ability, critical thinking, logical reasoning and creative problem-solving skills through challenging questions beyond the standard classroom curriculum.
According to the statement, Anvita’s performance placed her among an elite group of students worldwide, as only a small proportion of participants attained Gold Medal status in the competition.
It described the achievement as a reflection of sustained effort, discipline and strong analytical skills.
The statement said the official 2026 SASMO results released by the Singapore International Math Contests Centre ranked Anvita among the leading performers globally.
It noted that her achievement highlighted the capacity of Ghana-based students to excel in international academic competitions.
