Ave-Dakpa (V/R), June 15, GNA – Mr Bless Kodjo Katamani, Akatsi North District Chief Executive (DCE) says the Government’s Free Primary Healthcare Programme will remove barriers to healthcare access, encourage early treatment and improve health outcomes in communities.
has said the Government’s Free Primary Healthcare Programme (FPHC) will remove barriers that prevent many people from seeking medical attention and help improve health outcomes in communities.
He said the initiative would facilitate the early detection and treatment of diseases while strengthening preventive healthcare measures within the district and beyond.
Mr Katamani made the remarks on Friday at the district launch of the Free Primary Healthcare Programme in Ave-Dakpa, the district capital.
He expressed appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama, the Minister of Health, and the Volta Regional Minister for selecting Akatsi North as one of the beneficiaries of the pilot phase of the programme and for hosting the district launch.
According to him, the decision reflects the Government’s commitment to extending development interventions to grassroots communities and ensuring equitable access to social services.
Mr Katamani further noted that improved healthcare delivery remained essential to enhancing the well-being, productivity and socio-economic development of the people.
He commended health workers, community leaders and residents for their support and urged them to fully embrace the programme to maximise its benefits.


The DCE reaffirmed the commitment of the Akatsi North District Assembly to collaborate with the Ministry of Health, the Ghana Health Service and other partners to ensure the successful implementation and sustainability of the programme.
The Free Primary Healthcare Programme is a flagship government initiative aimed at expanding access to quality and affordable healthcare services across the country. It seeks to eliminate financial barriers to basic healthcare, strengthen community-based healthcare delivery, promote preventive healthcare and ensure equitable access to essential health services for all Ghanaians.
Among the dignitaries who attended the event were Mr Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, Minister of Health; Mr James Gunu, Volta Regional Minister; and Mr Charles Agbeve, Member of Parliament for the Agotime-Ziope Constituency.
Also present were Municipal and District Chief Executives from across the Volta Region, officials of the Ghana Health Service, representatives of the Volta Regional Coordinating Council and other stakeholders in the health sector.
The district launch formed part of a working visit by the Minister of Health to the Volta Region to advance the implementation of the Free Primary Healthcare Programme.
During the visit, Mr Akandoh participated in the regional launch in Ho and engaged traditional authorities, health officials and other stakeholders on measures to strengthen access to quality healthcare services and advance the attainment of universal health coverage.
Stakeholders at the event pledged their support towards strengthening primary healthcare systems and ensuring that the programme achieves its intended objectives in the district and across the wider Volta Region.
