Akropong (E/R), June 04, GNA – EcoPeriod, a Ghanaian social enterprise producing sustainable and reusable menstrual hygiene products, has donated 200 EcoPeriod kits to girls of the Okuapemman Senior High School (Okuass) at Akropong-Akuapem.
The donation, which was made in partnership with the Ghana Education Service (GES) to mark that year’s Menstrual Hygiene Day, received commendation from the Member of Parliament for Akuapem North, Mr Sammy Awuku.
Mr Awuku expressed admiration for the EcoPeriod’s commitment to providing quality menstrual hygiene products at affordable prices, making them accessible to girls in schools and underserved communities.
He also praised the enterprise for supporting Okuapemman School and called for increased collaboration among stakeholders to empower girls through improved menstrual hygiene practices.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Madam Amdiya Abdul Latiff, the Chief Executive Officer of EcoPeriod Ghana, indicated that the enterprise had partnered RuGirlz EMS and the GES to educate and empower adolescent girls on menstrual hygiene and environmental sustainability.
She stressed the importance of using safe and sustainable menstrual products, noting that EcoPeriod products were affordable and environmentally friendly.
Madam Latiff said advocacy campaigns in rural communities enabled the enterprise to educate and support disadvantaged girls and women on menstrual hygiene management.
She underscored the need for proper hygiene during menstruation and advised girls to change sanitary pads and undergarments regularly while choosing quality menstrual products such as those produced by EcoPeriod.
Madam Latiff also called on men to better understand and support women during their menstrual cycle.
She urged society to eliminate stigma and negative perceptions associated with menstruation and ensure women and girls had access to safe and sustainable menstrual products regardless of their social or economic background.
The partnership among EcoPeriod, GES and other stakeholders reflect efforts to promote menstrual hygiene education and empower girls to make informed decisions about their health and well-being.
Through advocacy, affordable products and sustainable practices, EcoPeriod continues to contribute to a more supportive environment for women and girls across Ghana.
