Akoefe – Avenui, Sept. 4, GNA – The Volta Region is set to benefit from its first Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) school, to be located at Akoefe-Avenui in the Ho Municipality.
Mr Richmond Edem Kofi Kpotosu, Member of Parliament for Ho Central, together with Mr Stephen Adom, Ho Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), and officials of the Municipal Education Directorate, have therefore joined an inspection team from the World Bank and Parliament’s Education Committee to assess the proposed project site.
The inspection formed part of efforts to evaluate the suitability of the site and advance plans towards the establishment of the school, which is expected to expand access to science and technology education in the region.
The proposed school is expected to provide opportunities for young people in the Volta region to acquire skills in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, while preparing them for higher education and careers in related fields.
Land for the project was made available through the support of chiefs and elders of Akoefe-Avenui, who released the site for the development.
Mr Kpotosu described the initiative as a significant step towards improving access to quality STEM education in the region and reducing the need for students to travel outside the Volta region in pursuit of such opportunities.
He expressed appreciation to the chiefs and elders for their contribution to the project and commended President John Dramani Mahama for his commitment to equitable national development and educational advancement.
According to the MP, the proposed school would strengthen STEM education and equip students with the skills needed to contribute meaningfully to the country’s technological and economic transformation.
Mr Kpotosu expressed optimism about the successful implementation of the project and called on all stakeholders to continue supporting efforts towards its realisation.
He said children in the Volta region deserve access to world-class educational facilities and opportunities within their communities.
