Agona Oketsew (C/R), May 27, GNA — The Agona East District Chief Imam, Alhaji Ibrahim Jabiru, has urged Muslims to uphold the principles of Islam to promote peace, harmony and development in their communities.
He said there was the need for Muslims to show love, understanding and appreciation towards one another to foster unity.
Alhaji Jabiru made the call when he addressed Muslims during the 2026 Eid-ul-Adha celebrations at Oketsew in the Agona East District of the Central Region.
He explained that Eid-ul-Adha was celebrated in remembrance of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham), who demonstrated his obedience to Allah by agreeing to sacrifice his son, adding that the slaughtering of animals symbolised that devotion.
The district Chief Imam expressed concern about the involvement of some youth in criminal activities, including armed robbery and cyber fraud.
He also lamented reports that about 4,000 applicants seeking recruitment into the security services had been disqualified due to drug abuse and mental health challenges.
Alhaji Jabiru cautioned Muslim youth against the use of hard drugs such as tramadol and “red,” which he said could ruin their future prospects, including opportunities to join the security services.
He appealed to Muslim leaders, scholars and organisations to intensify public education campaigns to sensitise students, graduates and the youth on the dangers of substance abuse and its adverse effects.
