Winneba (C/R), May 27, GNA – Hundreds of Muslims in the Effutu Municipality gathered at Wonsom, a community in Winneba on Wednesday to offer prayers and thanksgiving to commemorate the 2026 Eid-ul-Adha festival.

Alhaji Mansuru Mohammed Mansuru Issah, the Effutu Municipal Chief Imam, who led the prayers, thanked Almighty Allah for His guidance and blessings and prayed for the acceptance of their sacrifices.

He also prayed for peace and cohesion in Effutu and Ghana as a whole.

He urged worshippers, especially the youth, to reflect on the principles and values of Islam, do good to others, refrain from negative tendencies, and protect the image of the religion.

As part of the observance, the Municipal Chief Imam slaughtered a ram as a symbolic act of sacrifice to Allah.

In an interview, Alhaji Issah explained that Eid-ul-Adha, known as the “Feast of Sacrifice,” is the second major festival in the Islamic calendar.

It is observed to commemorate Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son, Ismail, in obedience to Allah’s command, he said.

“Hence the need for us to always reflect on his obedience, for the Almighty Allah to reward us as he did to Ibrahim,” he underscored.

Alhaji Issah further advised the youth to embrace peace and unity in all their endeavours, stressing that Islam stands for peace and that they should avoid actions that could tarnish the image of the religion.

Alhaji Zubeiru Kassim, a former Effutu Municipal Chief Executive, on behalf of Mr Alexander Afenyo-Markin, Member of Parliament for Effutu, prayed for continued peace and blessings for the people of Effutu.
