Juapong (V/R), May 10, GNA – North Tongu District Assembly has intensified its environmental sanitation campaign with a large-scale clean-up exercise at Juapong aimed at promoting public health and environmental cleanliness within the district.
The exercise, spearheaded by Madam Victoria Amefadzi Yawa Doe, the District’s Chief Executive (DCE) brought together residents, traders, assembly members and other stakeholders to undertake sweeping, desilting and waste clearing activities within the Juapong Market and along sections of the highway towards Ho.
The initiative formed part of the Assembly’s broader strategy to strengthen sanitation management, encourage community participation, and create a cleaner and healthier environment for residents.
Addressing participants during the exercise, the DCE underscored the importance of environmental cleanliness in national development and public health, stressing that effective sanitation practices remained critical in preventing disease outbreaks and improving the general wellbeing of the people.
She noted that the Assembly was committed to sustaining sanitation campaigns across communities in the district through regular clean-up exercises and intensified public education on proper waste disposal and environmental responsibility.
The DCE commended residents and stakeholders for their active participation and dedication towards maintaining clean surroundings, describing the collective response as a demonstration of the community’s commitment to environmental stewardship.
She urged residents, traders and transport operators to support the Assembly’s sanitation agenda by adopting responsible waste management practices and ensuring that public spaces remained free from indiscriminate dumping of refuse.
Some participants lauded the initiative and appealed for continuous sanitation interventions to help improve environmental conditions and enhance public hygiene within the district.
The North Tongu District Assembly has in recent months prioritised sanitation improvement initiatives as part of efforts to promote sustainable environmental management and healthier communities across the enclave.
