Bolgatanga, May 2, GNA – The Upper East Regional chapter of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) has issued a firm reminder to the government to fully implement their agreed-upon Conditions of Service (CoS).
The call follows a period of industrial unrest in 2025, when association members embarked on a strike due to prolonged delays in executing the CoS.
While the employer has since addressed fuel and uniform allowances, several critical components remain outstanding.
They included Book and Research allowances, Rural Service allowances, and the eight per cent salary increment.
During this year’s May Day celebrations held under the theme: “Pivoting to growth, jobs and sustainable livelihood beyond macroeconomic stability”, nurses and midwives made their grievances visible.
Clad in branded T-shirts, members took to the principal streets of the Bolgatanga Municipality in a spirited float holding placards some of which read, “Mr President, implement our Conditions of Service in full now”, “Migration is a right! Better Conditions of Service is the only solution”, “Our hands heal, our voices demand better Conditions of Service.”
The leadership of the GRNMA emphasized that while they remained committed to providing healthcare, the “brain drain” (migration of health workers) will only be halted if the government honoured its financial and professional commitments.
The association stressed that the partial implementation of the CoS was no longer sufficient to sustain the livelihoods of its members.
