Accra, May 29, GNA – The family of the late Apostle Emeritus Professor Kwadwo Safo has announced Friday 30 and Saturday 31, 2026, for the final funeral rites of the renowned inventor, industrialist and founder of the Kristo Asafo Mission.
The funeral activities would begin on July 30 at Apostle Safo Suaye at Gomoa Mpota in the Central Region, while the final funeral rites would be held on July 31, at the Independence Square in Accra.
The announcement followed a joint family meeting held in Accra on Thursday by Former Member of Parliament for Dome Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo, siblings and other family members to deliberate the preparations towards the burial of the late religious leader and philanthropist.
The meeting, held at the Palms Eagles Hotel near the Airport area, brought together close family members and key persons involved in the funeral arrangements.
A thanksgiving service would also be held in Kumasi on August 8, 2026, with the venue to be announced later.
Madam Adwoa Safo said the arrangements were intended to give the late Apostle Kwadwo Safo a befitting burial in recognition of his immense contributions to religion, science, technology and entrepreneurship in Ghana.
Apostle Kwadwo Safo, affectionately called the “Star of Africa,” died in 2025 at the age of 113.
He was widely known as the founder and leader of the Kristo Asafo Mission and the brain behind the Kantanka Group of Companies, which became a symbol of indigenous industrialisation and innovation in Ghana.
Through the Kantanka brand, Apostle Safo championed the local manufacture of vehicles, machinery and electronic products, promoting self-reliance and African ingenuity.
His automobile company, Kantanka Automobile, assembles vehicles in Ghana and contributes to national efforts to reduce dependence on imported vehicles, while creating employment opportunities for many young people.
Beyond the automobile industry, Apostle Safo also made contributions to green agricultural development through the manufacture of farming equipment and machinery to support local farmers and agro products to improve productivity.
He also promoted herbal medicine and alternative healthcare through research and the production of herbal products aimed at improving community health and wellness.
In the creative arts sector, Apostle Safo used drama and music productions through the Kristo Asafo Mission to educate, entertain and promote African culture and values.
He also supported technical and vocational skills development by mentoring artisans and young innovators in engineering and fabrication.
Apostle Safo was noted for his philanthropic activities, including the provision of scholarships, generous support for vulnerable persons and assistance to deprived communities.
Through his church and businesses, many people benefitted from skills training, employment opportunities and humanitarian interventions.
Many Ghanaians regarded him as a visionary leader whose life and works inspired confidence in African innovation, enterprise and self-reliance.
Family members at Thursday’s meeting expressed appreciation to Ghanaians and sympathisers across the world for the support, prayers and goodwill extended to the family since his passing.
They appealed for continued support and cooperation from the public as preparations towards the funeral progressed.
