Kumasi, May 19, GNA – The Global Evangelical Church, Kumasi Presbytery, has honoured one of its longstanding members, Rev. Prof. Frank Desmond Fugar, for his dedication and invaluable contributions towards the growth and revitalisation of the church.

The colourful ceremony, held under the theme, “Sustaining the Mission of the Global Evangelical Church,” brought together the clergy, church members, family and well-wishers to celebrate the distinguished service of the revered minister and academic.

Rev. Prof. Fugar was among a group of committed individuals who played key roles in restoring unity within the Church following a major split in the early 1990s.

In recognition of his contributions, the Church presented him with a citation, gifts and an undisclosed cash donation.

Delivering the keynote address, Apostle Jude Hama described Rev. Prof. Fugar as a dedicated servant of God who had devoted more than three decades of his life to pastoral ministry and community development.

He said the honouree served as the first detached Presbytery Chairman of the Kumasi Presbytery of the Church from 2013 to 2018 and had held several important positions within the Church.

These, he said, included membership of the Synod Committee, the Synod Advisory Committee, and the Editorial Board of the Church’s maiden magazine, Torch Bearer.

Apostle Hama further noted that Rev. Prof. Fugar is currently a co-founder of the Global Evangelical Mission Hospital at Ampromase near Kumasi, a project aimed at improving healthcare delivery and social welfare in the area.

He added that Rev. Prof. Fugar received the 2015 Ghana Institute of Building Award for distinguished service to Ghana’s construction industry.

In 2021, he said, the College of Arts and Built Environment also honoured him with an Excellence Award for emerging as the best mentor.

Mrs. Dzifa Kwawukume, the Immediate Past Female Presbyter of the Kumasi Presbytery, described Rev. Prof. Fugar as selfless, disciplined, candid and deeply committed to every responsibility entrusted to him.

She observed that despite facing criticism, persecution and vilification at various stages of his ministry, he remained steadfast and resolute in serving both God and humanity.

Receiving the honour, Rev. Prof. Fugar expressed appreciation to the Church for the recognition and urged the leadership to pay greater attention to the role of lay members in the growth of the Church.

“The purpose of worship is transformation,” he stated.
