Accra, May 7, GNA – Ghanaian table tennis player Celia Baah-Danso has been elected to the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Athletes’ Commission, the federation said on Tuesday.

The election took place during the ITTF World Team Table Tennis Championships Finals 2026 in London, with the announcement made by ITTF General Secretary Stefan Bergh.

Baah-Danso’s election marks a rare achievement for Ghana and African table tennis, giving the continent representation on a key body that advises the sport’s global governing organisation on athlete welfare and policy matters.

A national team player who has represented Ghana at international competitions, Baah-Danso campaigned on improving athlete representation, communication between players and officials, and promoting fairness and integrity within the sport.

“My primary goal is to represent the voice of athletes. I will also work to improve communication between athletes and officials and support fairness in the table tennis ecosystem,” Baah-Danso said.

She said she would focus on listening to athletes’ concerns and working with stakeholders to address issues affecting players worldwide.

The ITTF Athletes’ Commission serves as a link between players and the federation, providing input on decision-making processes and athlete-centered policies.

The Ghana Table Tennis Association welcomed the development, describing it as a positive step for athlete representation and the country’s growing presence in international sports administration.

Baah-Danso’s election adds to Ghana’s expanding influence in global table tennis, reflecting the increasing involvement of its players beyond competition and into leadership roles within the sport.
