Aburi chieftaincy dispute: eleven arrested over possession of arms/ammunition

Accra, May 7, GNA – The Eastern Regional Police Command has arrested 10 suspects in possession of quantity of arms and ammunition in connection with Adambrobe-Aburi dispute. 

An additional suspect, Douglas Amoako Danquah, was arrested the next day after being sighted in a procession within the township, bringing the number of arrested suspects to eleven.  

A press release issued by Chief Inspector Bridget Opoku, Public Relations Officer of the Command, copied the Ghana News Agency, said the suspects were arrested on Sunday, May 3. 

“On Sunday, May 3, 2026, the Aburi District Command arrested ten (10) suspects at Adambrobe, Aburi for the possession of arms and ammunition without authority in connection with the Adambrobe Chieftaincy dispute,” it said. 

She gave the names of the first 10 suspects as Dawu Joseph, farmer, Kwame Aboagye, vulcanizer, Samuel Obeng, taxi driver, Owusu Paul, member of Adambrobe Asekyere family, and Jerry John Kwame Atilla, businessman.  

The others were Evans Dekadzor, Christian Atsu, Samuel Annan, Thomas Davidson and Richard Agyeman who are all private security men.  

“The Police retrieved five Pump action rifles, 23 live cartridges, one taser, six  phones and one body armour.” 

“Two vehicles were impounded; one unregistered Ford pickup and a Toyota Corolla with registration number GE 2560-19, which were used to transport the suspects are also with the Police,” the release said. 

The suspects were in police custody assisting in investigations, it said, and pledged the Command’s commitment to maintaining peace and stability in Adambrobe, urging all parties to exercise restraint.
