Ho, May 17, GNA – Mr Ziblim Alhassan, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Library Authority (GhLA), has led a delegation to call on Mr James Gunu, Volta Regional Minister, to congratulate him on his appointment and discuss library infrastructure development in the region.

The meeting, held at the Volta Regional Coordinating Council in Ho, focused on ongoing and completed library projects, as well as strategies to improve access to reading and learning facilities across the region.

Mr Alhassan informed the Minister that the contractor for the stalled Ho Regional Library project was expected to return to site in the coming days to resume construction works.

He described the project as a top priority for the Authority and expressed optimism that it would soon be completed to serve students, researchers, and the public.

“The Ho Regional Library remains a major priority for the Ghana Library Authority, and we are committed to ensuring its completion to improve access to knowledge and educational resources in the Volta region,” he said.

Mr Alhassan also announced that the Hohoe Library project had been completed and was ready for operational use.

He said the facility formed part of broader efforts by the Authority to expand library services and promote literacy, learning, and digital access across the country.

He noted that modern libraries served as centres for research, innovation, digital learning, and community development, particularly for young people and students.

The Chief Executive Officer further emphasised the need for effective collaboration between government institutions and stakeholders to ensure sustainable investment in educational infrastructure.

Mr Gunu commended the Ghana Library Authority for prioritising library development projects in the region and acknowledged the role of libraries in promoting literacy, education, research, and lifelong learning.

He pledged the support of the Volta Regional Coordinating Council towards the completion and operationalisation of the Ho Regional Library project.

The Minister said he would work closely with the GhLA, the Ministry of Education, and the Ghana Education Trust Fund to address challenges affecting the project.

“We will collaborate with all relevant institutions to ensure the timely completion and operationalisation of the Ho Regional Library project for the benefit of the people of the region,” he said.

Mr Gunu expressed optimism that improved library infrastructure would enhance educational development, skills acquisition, and academic excellence in the Volta region.

The visit formed part of the GhLA stakeholder engagement efforts to strengthen partnerships and expand access to quality library services nationwide.
