Gomoa Kumasi (C/R), Sept. 13, GNA – The Chiefs and People of Assin Kumasi in the Gomoa West District has held a colourful durbar to climax the celebration of the 2026 Ahobaakese Festival under the theme: “Development through Unity,” raising funds for development projects in the town.
The activities including general clean-up exercise, clearing of river pathways, drumming by Asafo companies, display of culture and tradition, children funfair, family gathering and sports, heralded the grand durbar.
Earlier in the day, Nana Odziasempa Yaw Tawiah Amponsah III, the Odikro with his sub Chiefs, Queen mothers and family heads, embarked on a majestic procession in their colourful traditional regalia through the principal streets of the community to the durbar ground, where an crowd waited and cheered them.
Nana Odziasempa Amponsah later sat in state to receive homage from people from far and near.
He addressed the gathering, thanking past and the present governments for constructing a primary school and a KG structure, and connecting the community to the national electrification grid.
He noted that the community needed teacher’s and nurse’s quarters and a Junior High School.
The Odikro explained that the school in the community started in 1942 in the house of the then Odikro, Nana Yaw Tawiah of blessed memory and was later moved to the mission house of the Methodist Church and then to its present location without a Junior High School.
“It is sad, our children share JHS with Gomoa Obokrom, trekking risky long distances, and we are appealing to the government to support us to construct a JHS block with teacher’s quarters, to boost their moral to stay in the town to teach our children.”
On health, he disclosed that, a Health Centre was built through self-help, but accommodation was needed to retain the staff posted to the town, and called on NGOs, the District Assembly and individuals to aid them to put up nurses’ quarter.
On investments, Nana Odziasempa Amponsah assured investors of vast lands for factories, agriculture and agri-processing of cassava, palm and other fruits.
He thanked the Gomoa West District Assembly, Member of Parliament, Mr Richard Mensah who is also the Deputy Minister for Energy and Green Transition for the support given to them.
He also commended his people for contributing their quota towards a peaceful festival and also urged them to contribute to facelift the town.
