Ghana Cricket Association pays courtesy call on Sports Minister

Accra, May 6, GNA-The Ghana Cricket Association (GCA) has paid a courtesy call on Mr. Kofi Iddie Adams, Minister for Sports and Recreation (MoSR) following their recent success at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup qualifiers.  

Ghana finished as runners-up in the competition, thereby securing qualification to the next stage as they continue their pursuit of a place at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. 

The visit, led by officials of the Association, was to present medals and trophies to the Minister and to express appreciation for his support during the tournament. 

In his remarks, Mr. Kofi Adams commended the leadership of the GCA for their efforts in developing the sport, noting that the progress made had reflected in Ghana’s improved international standing. 

He referenced the team’s rise in the ICC rankings from 68th to 56th as evidence of the steady growth of cricket in the country. 

The Minister also praised the team for their discipline and performance during the competition and encouraged them to remain focused as they prepare for the next phase. 

“This Ministry will continue to back you all the way through to the qualifiers because I want you to be at the World Cup so I know whatever it takes to prepare ourselves when as a country one of the things we will be using to celebrate our 70th anniversary  is our qualification to the World Cup,” he added.  

The Member of Parliament for the Buem constituency further commended the Local Organizing Committee for successfully hosting the tournament within a limited timeframe. 

Mr. Emmanuel Owusu-Ansah Asare, President of the GCA expressed gratitude to the Minister for his commitment to the development of cricket in Ghana.  

He highlighted the dedication of the players and acknowledged the positive impact of the Ministry’s support. 

He added that the Association was determined to build on this momentum by ensuring consistent participation in international competitions and enhancing the overall competitiveness of the national team. 

“We wish to introduce those boys who made us so proud. These ones are more committed than we have had before possibly because you have a listening ear and also encourage them to go a little further,” he added.  

The Local Organizing Committee also presented a technical report on the qualifiers to support Ghana’s preparations for hosting future international competitions.
