Côte d’Ivoire Reaffirms Support for Morocco’s Territorial Integrity

Accra, May 22, GNA — Côte d’Ivoire has reaffirmed its unwavering support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Kingdom of Morocco, including over the Sahara region.

This position was reiterated in a Joint Communiqué issued following bilateral talks held in Rabat between Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Mr. Nasser Bourita, and Côte d’Ivoire’s Minister of State and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ms Nialé Kaba, who is on her first working visit to the Kingdom.

During the meeting, Ms Kaba underscored her country’s consistent stance backing Morocco’s sovereignty over its entire territory. She also reaffirmed Côte d’Ivoire’s support for Morocco’s autonomy plan as a viable solution to the dispute over the Sahara.

The Ivorian Foreign Minister further welcomed the adoption of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2797 on October 31, 2025. The resolution endorses Morocco’s autonomy initiative, within the framework of Moroccan sovereignty, as the only serious, credible and lasting basis for a political settlement to the conflict.

Mr. Bourita, for his part, expressed deep appreciation for Côte d’Ivoire’s steadfast support, describing it as a reflection of the strong and strategic partnership between the two nations.

He also noted that Côte d’Ivoire’s opening of a Consulate General in Laayoune on February 18, 2020, stands as tangible evidence of the depth of bilateral ties and mutual commitment at the highest levels.
