Accra, Oct. 29, GNA – Mr Stephen Nhyira Odarteifio, Lead Coordinator of the Ghana Agricultural Fund for Education and Transformation (GAFET), on Thursday donated 1,000 bags of 10-kilogramme organic fertiliser to support the 42nd National Farmers’ Day celebration.

The donation is intended to support the recognition and rewarding of farmers, particularly young people engaged in agriculture, at the national event scheduled for Friday, December 4, 2026, in Sunyani, Bono Region.

Presenting the items to Mr John Dumelo, the Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture, in Accra, Mr Odarteifio said he was motivated by the need to support farmers whose efforts sustained food production across the country.

He said he had decided to contribute to the celebration after observing efforts by individuals and organisations to mobilise resources to reward deserving farmers.

“As the incoming National Youth Organiser of our great party, especially where the hopes and aspirations of our young people are hugely bent on how we are impacting them, I thought it would also be great that I could pull a few resources together,” he said.

Mr Odarteifio said the donation would also encourage young people to embrace organic agriculture and recognise their contribution to food production.

He explained that the fertiliser was made from saprophilic colloids and active peat, and called for more young people to adopt organic farming practices.

Receiving the items on behalf of the Ministry, Mr Dumelo thanked GAFET for the donation, saying it would be distributed directly to farmers as part of the awards and support package for the celebration.

“As chairman of the Farmers’ Day celebration, we definitely need it, and so we will put it to good use. We will distribute it to the farmers accordingly,” he said.

The donation, he said, had come at an opportune time, as the Ministry continued preparations and mobilised resources to reward outstanding farmers.

The National Farmers’ Day was instituted in 1985 to recognise the contribution of farmers and fishers to national development and food security.

The annual event provides a platform to honour outstanding farmers and other agricultural stakeholders.

This year’s celebration will be held on the theme: “Our Farmers, Our Food, Our Future.”
