Ho, Oct. 29, GNA – Alaye, a suburb of Ho, erupted into pure ecstasy on Wednesday evening, following the Ghana Black Maidens’ thrilling penalty shootout victory over Argentina, securing a hard-fought spot in the next round of the tournament, after a tense 1-1 draw in regulation time.

The Black Maidens beat Argentina 5-4 on penalties to advance to the quarter-finals of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

The girls produced a heroic display, holding on with 10 players after Hajara Adam was sent off.

The final whistle triggered instant celebrations, with ecstatic youth and elders alike pouring onto the streets of Alaye, singing victory songs, waving the national flag, and drumming late into the evening.

However, amidst the celebrations, the jubilant fans have sent a strong, direct message to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Ministry of Youth and Sports, urging the authorities to prioritise the financial welfare of the team by immediately releasing all outstanding bonuses owed to the players.

Julius, a mechanic and staunch soccer fun, said the girls had shown incredible resilience and national pride and must be supported by all citizens.

“They have fought hard to lift the flag of Ghana. We are appealing to the GFA and the Sports Ministry to release all their bonuses right now,” Julius said.

Another fun, Agbesi, a taxi driver, said receiving the bonuses was the ultimate motivation the Maidens needed to keep their focus, reach the finals, and bring that trophy home.

Emmanuel, a resident and passionate sports advocate, called on the entire nation to back the team with intense prayers as they prepared for their upcoming crucial fixtures.

“The talent is there, and the determination is visible, but they also need the spiritual backing of the country. I am asking every Ghanaian, regardless of where you are, to pray for these young girls,” he said.

He noted that with massive prayers and the right motivation from the authorities, there was no doubt that the Black Maidens would win this trophy.
