Akatsi (VR), May 8, GNA – The 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the Akatsi South Municipality ended smoothly on Friday with no cases of examination malpractice recorded across the six examination centres.

A total of 1,540 candidates, comprising 761 males and 789 females from 83 public and private basic schools, sat for the week-long examination in the Municipality.

Mr Karim Ayaana Umar, Akatsi South Municipal Director of Education, disclosed this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) after the final paper.

He described the conduct of the examination as peaceful and successful despite a few challenges relating to health and absenteeism among candidates.

Mr Ayaana said five pregnant girls and a nursing mother participated in the examination, adding that the Directorate, together with supervisors and health officials, ensured the affected candidates received the needed support throughout the exercise.

He explained that some cases of absenteeism were also recorded during the examination but noted that the situation did not disrupt the smooth conduct of the exercise.

“No case of examination malpractice was recorded in any of the centres, and we are grateful to all stakeholders who contributed to the successful organisation of the examination,” he said.

Mr Ayaana commended security personnel, invigilators, supervisors, teachers, parents, the Municipal Assembly, and other stakeholders for their cooperation and support throughout the period.

He urged parents and guardians to monitor their wards and ensure that celebrations after the examination remained decent and safe.

Some candidates who spoke to the GNA after the final paper expressed excitement and relief after completing the examination.

They described some of the papers as challenging but manageable and expressed optimism about obtaining good results to continue their education at the senior high school level.

Others also thanked their teachers and parents for the support and encouragement offered to them before and during the examination period.

The GNA saw some candidates jubilating, exchanging pleasantries with colleagues, and taking photographs at some centres after the final paper.

The examination, which began on Monday, was supervised by officials of the Ghana Education Service and security personnel to ensure a peaceful and incident-free process throughout the Municipality.
