Takoradi, May 4 (GNA) – A total of 45,116 candidates are sitting for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the Western Region.
This figure represents a 2.81 per cent increase compared to the 2025 academic year. Of the total number, 33,219 candidates are from public schools, while 11,897 are from private schools.
A breakdown of the candidates shows that 23,112 are females and 22,004 are males.
The candidates are writing the examination at 154 centres across the region. To ensure a smooth process, 188 police officers have been deployed to provide security, alongside 1,560 invigilators and 157 supervisors.
Mr Emmanuel Essuman, the Western Regional Director of Education, stated that all necessary arrangements had been made to ensure a smooth and credible examination process throughout the region.
He urged candidates to avoid examination malpractices and stressed the importance of punctuality, encouraging them to arrive at their centres on time.
