Wenchi, (Bono), May 4, GNA – The number of girls writing the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the Wenchi Municipality of the Bono Region outnumber the boys, statistics from the Wenchi Municipal Directorate of Education revealed.
According to Mrs Mary Nyarko Adu-Twum, the Wenchi Municipal Director of Education, a total of 2,433 candidates were writing the BECE in the municipality.
They comprised 1,347 girls and 1,086 boys, saying that the examination commenced earnestly at the various centers in the municipality on Monday, May 4.
In an interview with the media at Wenchi, Mrs Adu-Twum said the candidates were drawn from 72 public and 23 private schools, saying that they were writing the exams at 10 centers across the municipality.
She said 10 supervisors and 82 invigilators were monitoring the BECE, adding that 13 of the schools were writing French and 10 of them writing Arabic, saying that 424 of the candidates are expected to write French with 288 of them writing Arabic.
Mad Adu-Twum warned that examination malpractices remained a serious offence and cautioned the candidates against the temptation of engaging in malpractices, asking them to do independent work.
