Accra, May 13, GNA – Botswana’s Aabote Tshwanelo and Algeria’s Boudoumi Dhia Cherif shared the spotlight in the men’s decathlon 100-metre event at the ongoing African Senior Athletics Championships (ASAC) in Accra after both athletes clocked an impressive 10.97 seconds.
The two athletes finished joint first in the opening event of the decathlon competition held at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, thrilling spectators with their explosive performances.
South Africa’s Van As Morne, placed third with a time of 11.04 seconds to secure 852 points, while Kenya’s Too, Edween, followed closely in fourth after recording 11.12 seconds for 835 points.
Nicolas Huys of Côte d’Ivoire finished fifth in 11.22 seconds, earning 813 points, as Benin’s Adjagbodjou Aldo Mariano Sédjlo placed sixth with a time of 11.23 seconds and 811 points.
Namibia’s Tovagliaro Fadi came seventh after clocking 11.44 seconds to secure 766 points.
Algeria’s Touati Walid, however, failed to record a valid time and ended the event without a point.
Other events in the men’s decathlon would continue in the coming days as athletes battle to gather points as they aim to get on the medal podium.
The decathlon competition kick-started activities on the track at the ongoing African Senior Athletics Championships being held at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium in Accra, Ghana.
Fans at the stadium applauded the athletes for their determination and competitive spirit, with many expecting tougher contests in the remaining events of the decathlon.
