22 terrorists killed in military operation in NW Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, May 19 (Xinhua/GNA) — Pakistani security forces killed 22 terrorists during an intelligence-based operation in the country’s northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa district, the military said on Tuesday.

The operation was launched on May 17 in the Shewa area of North Waziristan district after receiving reports about the presence of terrorists, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing of the Pakistani military, said in a statement.

During an intense exchange of fire over the past 24 hours, troops engaged terrorists’ hideouts and killed 22 of them, the statement said
Weapons and ammunition were also recovered from the killed terrorists, who were involved in multiple attacks in the area, according to the ISPR.

The military said the terrorists had allegedly used local residents as human shields to secure safe passage, calling the act condemnable.
A sanitization operation is continuing in the area to eliminate any remaining militants, the statement added.
