Kikam (W/R), Oct. 19, GNA – Nana Nwia Etease II, Divisional Chief of Kikam, has called for a concerted war against prostitution in Nzema land.
He revealed with shock that some prominent persons in society were fuelling the practice by building houses and renting them out to commercial sex workers.
Nana Etease made the call at the grand durbar to climax the 2026 annual Kundum Festival of the Chiefs, elders and people of Kikam in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region.
“I am deeply shocked to learn that some prominent persons among us, who should know better and protect our culture, have built houses and are renting them out to these prostitutes at exorbitant prices,” he said.
According to him, such prominent personalities were living off the profit from the destruction of young girls which he described as unacceptable.
The Chief called on the Eastern Nzema Traditional Council for a collective action to ensure stringent by-laws are enforced to clamp down on landlords operating brothels in the area.
The Chief also expressed deep regret over how the main toilet facility built for the community by Mr Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, Member of Parliament, had been abandoned.
According to the Chief, the abandonment was compelling some residents to resort to open defecation, contributing to the spread of diseases in the town.
Nana Etease II expressed profound gratitude to the Management of Adamus Mining Company, the District Health Director of Ellembelle and staff, and the NHIS staff for their kind donations towards the festival.
Madam Rebecca Ellimah, a retired lawyer, stressed the need for good quality education delivery and sanitation.
Mr. Michael Nglah Anyimiah, a youth activist of Kikam, called on indigenes and residents of Kikam to engage in communal labour to keep their surroundings clean.
As part of the durbar, awards were presented to two illustrious sons of the town; Mr. Gustus Yaw, Chief Executive Officer of Gustason Gold Buying Company Limited and Mr. John Kwame, CEO of Jofel Kids, for their continued support towards education, youth development and community projects in Kikam.
